Assess before disturbing an older coating
Some textured coatings applied before 2000 contain asbestos. Do not scrape, sand, drill or remove an unknown coating yourself. Arrange competent assessment and any specialist work required before plastering preparation is agreed. Our plastering service does not claim to provide asbestos surveys or removal.
When a smooth finish is suitable
The existing coating and the plaster or board below must be sound and able to support the proposed finish. Loose coatings, sagging ceilings, leaks or recurring cracks need investigation. Where retaining the surface is inappropriate, replacement boarding or another assessed approach may be needed.
Preparation and finishing
Once safe preparation has been established, protect the room and use the bonding or preparation system appropriate to the surface and finish. The plaster is applied and trowelled to a consistent finish, then allowed to dry before decoration. Do not assume that every textured surface needs the same primer or coat thickness.
Request a quotation
Call 07881 365851 with the room size, property location and what you know about the coating. Explain any staining, loose areas or earlier alterations. Assessment and preparation requirements form part of the quotation; prices and timing depend on the actual surfaces.
